Â
Netflix is hell-bent on world domination . . . and theyâre apparently using the âthrow everything at the wall and see what sticks approach,â because theyâre unleashing an avalanche of original content this year.
The number of new Netflix Originals by the end of the year will be âin the 700 range.â Which is crazy. And expensive. Theyâre shelling out $8 billion on original content this year alone.
The majority of those are shows. There are 30 new anime shows . . . and around 80 will be foreign releases, which may or may not be available in the U.S. By comparison, in 2016 they only had 126 new original shows, movies, and specials.
And this isnât a joke, they have a record 54 new titles debuting just next month.
Of course, Netflix isnât actively producing all of this content . . . some of it theyâre buying outright. But that number does not include existing titles that have already hit movie theaters or aired on TV . . . itâs only their exclusive stuff.
In fact, as youâve probably noticed, Netflix is slowly decreasing their non-Netflix catalog. Since 2018, theyâve cut the number of streaming movies by 21%, and the total number of titles in general also dropped from 7,285 to 5,579 in that time.
Clearly, theyâre banking on their content being good enough to fill the void, and since itâs theirs, itâs a lot cheaper than licensing from other studios.
